The Future is now; Moscow Actionism of the period of Storm and Stress (1990-1995). Actionism is one of the most important phenomena of the Moscow art of 1990s. At this time, many artists left the galleries and went out into the streets choosing the art of action over the familiar forms of art. The artists rejected the art institutions and appealed directly to the general public and the media. Through their brilliant, sometimes outrageous actions, artists tried to express the essence of the dramatic and revolutionary processes of that time. In this lecture Russian researcher Alexandra Obukhova will examine the period of Storm and Stress (1990-1995) in Moscow Actionism, the Netsezyudik group, Alexander Brener's works and the No name group. The lecture will be accompanied by a demonstration of rare archival material owned by the Art Projects Foundation and the Art via Video studio. Lecturer: Alexandra Obukhova, art historian, curator. |
